How to Zero Liquid-Filled Gauges
-
- Locate the vent hole on the gauge. It is usually a small hole with a rubber stopper or a brass pin.
- Insert a fingernail or a small screwdriver into the vent hole and apply pressure*. This will release the pressure in the gauge and the pointer will return to zero.
- If the gauge has a brass pin, you may need to pull the pin out to release the pressure.
- Once the pressure is released, the pointer should return to zero. If it does not, you may need to repeat the steps above.
*NOTE: Be careful when pushing on the stopper; it has the potential to fall into the gauge, and will be difficult to remove.
